My Time with Leonard Cohen

Sharon Robinson is a Grammy-winning songwriter, singer, and record producer. Born in San Francisco and raised in Los Angeles, Robinson has written songs for The Pointer Sisters, Don Henley, Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, Aaron Neville, and many others. She is perhaps best known as Leonard Cohen’s principal collaborator, having co-written several songs with him, including “Everybody Knows” and “In My Secret Life”, and having produced and co-written the album, Ten New Songs, which was named one of the Top 100 albums of the decade by Rolling Stone Magazine. Sharon’s association with Cohen spanned nearly 40 years, including performing as one of the singers on his ‘Grand Tour” of 2008-2013. She also photographed his final tour for her book, “On Tour with Leonard Cohen – Photographs by Sharon Robinson” for PowerHouse Books. She has also released three solo albums of original music and an EP of cover songs. Sharon is currently working on new material for an album and a book .She will perform her multi-media one-woman show that has captivated audiences in the United States and Canada at McCabe’s guitar shop on Sunday, March 17th at 8pm.

Author and Leonard Cohen devotee Philippe Sands (East West Street, The Last Colony) speaks to renowned singer and writer Sharon Robinson, the most prolific co-writer of songs with Cohen. As well as being Cohen’s frequent writing collaborator, Robinson has written songs for a number of other artists including the Pointer Sisters, Aaron Neville, Brenda Russell, Diana Ross, Don Henley, Michael Bolton, Randy Crawford, Patti LaBelle, Roberta Flack, the Temptations and Bettye LaVette.

In “My Time with Leonard Cohen: a Musical Memoir”, Sharon Robinson will trace the story of her nearly 40-year friendship and songwriting partnership with Leonard Cohen, including a behind-the-scenes narrative, performances of songs they wrote together such as Everybody Knows, In My Secret Life, Waiting For The Miracle, Alexandra Leaving and Boogie Street, and rare photographic imagery. Along with performances of some of their captivating songs, she will bring you into their writing process, reveal how the partnership came about, and give some insights into Cohen’s unique perspective.
